Side plate is one important component in the gear pump, and improving its tribology properties plays an important role in reducing internal leakage and increasing volumetric efficiency. The iron-based powder metallurgy with lead gear pump side plate has been used widely, because of its good anti-friction and anti-adhesion properties. With the increasing of the gear pump working pressure and the improvement of environment protection and health awareness, it’s urgent to develop one kind of iron-based powder metallurgy without lead gear pump side plate, meanwhile, the side plate should has better wear resistance and anti-friction properties. In response to this reality, optimizing the formulation of the iron-based powder metallurgy material without lead. Through mechanical properties and friction and wear performance analysis to explore the influence of formula composition on the mechanical and tribology properties. What’s more, I also analyze the mechanism of various alloying elements by observing the microstructure structure, fracture morphology and the worn surface morphology of materials.The results show that:a small amount of phosphorus can significantly improve the mechanical properties of the material. Phosphide appeared at the grain boundaries results in a substantial decline in the crushing strength when the content of phosphorus is more than0.4%. Adding TiH2to the material contained phosphorus can increase the open porosity and the content of oil, improve the tribology properties significantly. TiC particles generated can improve the wear resistance of materials. At the same time, TiC particles also increase brittle of the material. The material is prone to occur fatigue wear when the test load is large. Adding appropriate amount of copper to the iron-based powder metallurgy material can improve the mechanical properties, the brittle significantly and make brittle fracture transit to ductile fracture. In addition, the appropriate amount of copper can improve anti-friction and wear resistance property and increase the carrying capacity obviously. Comparing the different between the new material and the side plate material contained lead in the anti-friction and wear resistant properties, carrying capacity and other factors, the results show that:the19#material is better than the materials contained lead. The new material meets the trend of the gear pump side plate material, which should has high strength, environment friendly and lead-free characteristics.
