As China’s shortage of water resources is increasingly serious, the developmentof new adsorbent for adsorbing sewage and wastewater is more and more urgent.Diatomite has a large storage in China,the characteristic of light, porous and stabilitymake diatomite becoming a promising environmental adsorbent. Zeolite has theadvantages of a uniform pore size, a structural diversity, a regulated polarity, a strongselective adsorption and a good stability, it is suitable for the treatment of lowconcentration organic wastewater which is complex, toxic and difficult to degrade.However, diatomite has too large pores and low adsorption efficiency. Zeolite alsohas disadvantages in an expensive cost and agglomeration effect. Combiningdiatomite with zeolite to develop a new adsorbent for wastewater treatment has agood application value.(1)Studied on the adsorption properties of three kinds of diatomites andthirteen kinds of zeolites for phenol wastewater. Diatomites had poor performanceon adsorption of phenol, diatomite3#had the best removal rate no more than14percent.Zeolites`adsorption ability on phenol varied in a large range, ZSM-5series was better on phenol adsorption, including silicalite-1optimal, removal efficiency is more than82%. Choose diatomite3#and silicalite-1as raw material for the subsequentcomposite material preparation. And studied on XRD atlas and SEM surfacetopography of diatomite3#and silicalite-1.(2) Composite materials were prepared by methods of ratio combination, in situgrowth, seeding secondly growth and meso-micro growth. The composite materialswere studied on XRD atlas and SEM surface topography too, and the results werecompared with diatomite3#and silicalite-1to ensure the mechanism and success ofpreparation.(3) A series of research on composite`s adsorption capacity were made,adsorption time, adsorbent mass and pH were considerate. The results showed thatan addition of20g/l composite adsorption material in50mg/l phenol under acidiccondition could have an good removal rate about77percent. Compared with thediatomite3#, composite material`s dsorption properties had a significant increase.
