Reinforced structure plays a vital role in the performance of fiber reinforced composites.Laminated composites used in complicated aerocraft structures are high in cost and fragile to impact from external forces.Both problems motivate the development of 3D woven composites,which shows better flexibility,resistance to impact and delaminate property.What’s more,complex structure could be made with 3d woven method, resulting in less consumption of raw materials.Arendts has found that higher fiber volume fraction of Z direction can improve the interlamilar property and impact property,while lower the in-plane properties.Susuki has found that 3D woven composites has a lower tensile strength and compression strength of 6%than 2D woven composites,but the 3D woven composites has a higher compression strength after impacting of 60%than the 2D woven composites.The purpose of this study was to manufacture the 3D orthogonal woven composites and 2D laminated composites by the VARTM method,then to test the static mechanical properties of the glass fiber composites,and to compare the advantages and disadvantages.The static properties include tensile property,and three point bending property.Comparing the two kinds of composites, we found that 2D laminated composites was easy to be delaminated in the test,and it has a lower strength than the 3D woven composites.The latter has a better interlaminar property than the former.When tensile tested,the 2D structure was very easy to delaminated,while the 3D orthogonal structure has a excellent integrity property.The former was a little weaker than the latter in tensile strength and modulus.In three point bending test,3D orthogonal composited has a higher bending strength than 2D composites.The matrix of the former was crazed and changed to white when bending,but the latter delaminated when bending.
