China's railway infrastructure development lags, railway transport capacity can not meet the transport demand driven by economic development. The railroad transport capacity shortage is more prominent in the coal transportation. The coal is our country's foundation energy and its distribution is imbalanced, which result in the fact that massive amount of coal must be transported from north to south or from west to east in our country. Therefore, the railroad, which has the attributes of huge transport capacity and low cost, must undertake the arduous coal transportation task. However, the transport capacity of the national railroad is insufficient and unable to meet the coal transportation demand. Under such circumstances, how to resolve the transportation bottleneck arises as a key problem that large coal enterprises have to face. The article takes this problem as the breakthrough point to analysis and discussion large coal enterprises should take what kind of logistics organization mode. The article firstly use the transaction cost theory of new institutional economics and the Stigler's theory of industrial organization to explain the reason of coal transportation and production integration in large-scale coal enterprises. Secondly, it make a thorough analysis on logistics of several other large international mining companies.Thirdly, from demonstration angle, it analyzes the practical significance of the vertical integration of Shenhua, and explores what type of production transportation pattern should adopt the large-scale coal enterprises in our country. Finally, draws the conclusion through the above analysis that at the present stage, large coal enterprises should use the vertical integration of logistics to resolve the transportation bottleneck.Numerous data of this thesis come from investigating to the company, released annual reports and the Statistical Yearbook of each year related.
