Festivals are the encyclopedia of social life. There is a variety of festival activities and all-inclusive customs. To the greatest extent, it reflects the material life of the citizens in an ethnic group or a region as well as the different aspects of spiritual life. Festivals are the mirror which allows us to understand one aspect of an ethnic group's history, culture, and deepen our understanding of this ethnic group.For the Chinese nation, it is no doubt that the most magnificent, energetic, and exciting festival is Lunar New Year. As for the seasons change and the needs for crop arrangements, Chinese festivals gradually formed a series of colorful activities that are being demonstrated as the distinct cultural characteristics of agriculture.Furthermore, people would express the memory of their ancestors by worshiping them on the advent of major festivals. As a festival is once formed, it will have a relative independence along with stability and being handed down from generation to generation. While there is sometimes a change in social conditions, it still retains the shadow of ancient customs.China and Vietnam are both founded and based on agriculture since ancient times. These two countries have shared the profound friendship for thousands years ago, and Vietnam has been in all respects under the influence of China as cultures, literature, customs, and so on. In addition to statutory holidays, the Civil currently celebrate the traditional festivals that accounts for about one third of all holidays. It includes Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn, Dragon Boat, and Lantern Festival that have become the major four festivals of Vietnam and China.Lunar New Year Festival is to pay a New Year call on the first month, Lantern Festival is to light up the lantern, Mid-Autumn Festival is to appreciate the moon, and Dragon Boat Festival is to boat the dragon boat. Each festival contains a variety of colorful and distinct cultural features that reflect the richness and simplicity of people's sentiment. Although there is a layer of complication, the tendency of the author's conceptions and ideas could still be illustrated.This article is divided into six parts of comparing "the content of four major festivals activities in China and Vietnam":the first chapter is the introduction of this article that mainly focuses on research status as well as the meaning and purpose of this study; the second chapter briefly describes the four major festivals in China and Vietnam; the third chapter describes the festivals with a few typical and different sources; The fourth chapter of this article is mainly comparing these four major festivals between China and Vietnam in order to explore the similarities and differences. The sixth chapter is to conclude and briefly summarize the result of this research and exploration.
