The development of autonomous team-based work structure over the past two decades has enabled the group work researchers to investigate the relation between organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and its predictors. However, most of the studies conducted on OCB are soly focused on individuals or, to the most, the organization atmosphere. Although the national culture has been identified as the cornerstone of attitude and behavior cultivation, little has been done to explore the mechanism that how could the Chinese people be cultured to be cooperative or competitive and have OCBs.The goal of this study was to look beyond individuals and examine the links between OCB and the unique Chinese cultured Zhong-yong thinking style.207 employees, including 94 male and 113 female, from Taiwan-owned enterprises were surveyed with paper-and-pencil measures in Kunshan, Suzhou. The Zhong-yong thinking style demonstrated significant ability in predicting cooperative -competitive attitude and OCBs, and the cooperative-competitive attitude mediated the relationship between the Zhong-yong thinking style and OCBs in the staff. The results of the analysis suggested that gender, education, length of service and the department that one belonged to also brought significant difference in the results. |
