China is the earliest civilized countries in the world. All working people made great efforts to struggle with nature for conquering in thousands of years. They received brilliant achievements about how to eliminate the ruin of water and use water resources. The extremely ample literatures recorded a long history of irrigational project. Water technology is productivity. Irrigational project has a very close relationship with politics and economy.The research of literature is a basic task to every subject and the main inherited instrument is literature. Ancient China has created a brilliant achievement of irrigational technology and accumulated a large number of irrigational literatures full of academic value, collected value and scientific value in use. They have important significance to research the development of water resources and eliminate the ruin of water.This paper will be divided into four parts to research the irrigational literature in ancient China. In the introduction, the paper will introduce the purpose, meaning and investigative actuality of irrigational literature in ancient China with some harvests in modern times. The first part will introduce the development of irrigational literature in ancient China, including its origin and three stages: Pre-Qin to Qin and Han dynasties, Three Kingdoms to Song and Yuan dynasties, Ming and Qing dynasties. The second part will introduce two contents: one is the content of irrigational archives in ancient China; the other is the content of irrigational books in ancient China.The third part will introduce the carrier and the shape of irrigational archives in ancient China, including oracle bones, carved stones, bamboo and wooden slips, silken fabrics and papers. They will be illustrated particularly.The last part will introduce formation, storage and application of irrigational literature in ancient China. The formation includes main formers which will be discussed by evolvement of irrigational organization and its officer in ancient China and the process which will be discussed by writers and background of irrigational literature in ancient China. The storage includes management and collection being discussed by evolvement of relevant organization in ancient China. The application includes ancient and modern usage. This paper will summarize the active effect of irrigational literature used in Three Gorges Project.
