The elevation of business performance is closely related with the corporate governance structure,and the ownership structure is an important part of the corporate governance structure. In recent years,most scolars focuses on researching the relationship between the ownership structure and performance,they have made the the more important research.However , the study of commercial banks between ownership structure and performance is relative. As a special industry category, commercial bank not only has the common characteristics of companies,but also has its own specific industry characteristics. This paper attempts by the research on 14 listed banks in China since listing until 2009, trying to find out the relationship between the ownership structure of listed banks and business performance,then propose the recommendation about optimizing the ownership structure of listed banks,and provide reference for the bank ownership structure optimizationFirstly, the domestic and foreign literature and the theories of corporate performance and ownership structure were reviewed and summarized. Then analyze and compare ownership structure modles of domestic and foreign commercial banks, and describe the Status of the commercial banks'ownership structure.Finally, according to the sample data of the China's listed banks in 10 years from 2000 to 2009, do regression analysis of operating performance of listed banks from the three aspects of ownership structure - ownership concentration, ownership properties, equity balance degree. In order to study the relationship between the ownership structure and operating performance of listed banks.The empirical results show that: the ownership concentration of listed commercial bank in China and the operating performance are negatively correlated; proportion of state-owned share and operating performance are negatively correlated,too; the proportion of legal person share and the Bank's Comprehensive Performance have significant positive correlation, but the relationship relating to the net return on assets was not significant; the proportion of tradable shares and bank performance don't exist significant correlation; the relationship between equity balance degree and bank performance is positively correlated, but the significance is not obvious. Finally, list the policy recommendations about the optimal ownership structure of listed banks based on the empirical conclusions, including: 1. reducing the ownership concentration furtherly,and improving the degree of equity; 2. reducing the proportion of state-owned shares; 3. increasing the proportion of legal person shares and pulling in institutional investors; 4 . increasing the proportion of tradable shares.
