With the development of global economy, the trend of global industry has been more and more clearer. Processing trade has become the main type of international trade and industry. Processing trade in fact is to complete different step of industry in different country according the country's material advantages, so this can reduce the cost of the product and improve the competition of the country.After mire than 20 years of development, processing trade has made historical contribution for the economic and social development of Qingdao. But it has a lot of problems that can't be ignored too. Under the new situation, The Third Plenary Session of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China passed "A Decision on Issues Regarding the Improvement of the Socialist Market Economic System" and it stated that China should "continue to develop processing trade, to attract multinational corporations in order to transfer more sophisticated and advanced technology, more value-added processing expertise and research centers to China, and to lead to the transformation and enhancements of processing trade". This thesis tries to hold the above policy as a guiding principle, and to investigate the transformation and upgrading direction and strategy of Qingdao's processing trade, on the basis of thoroughly analyzing the current conditions and existed problems China's processing trade is encountering.The thesis first focuses on analyzing the promoting functions of processing trade on the developing countries. It point out that as the important way of joining the world distribution, the processing trade is the important chain of entering the global production system, the main style of accept international industry transfer, the effective media of advancing the technical level, the convenient approach of utilizing foreign capital, the new mode of establishing international sale channel. In succession, the thesis make a retrospect of the development history of processing trade in Qingdao and point out the characters, problems of Qingdao processing trade. At last, the thesis give the suggestions on the industrial upgrading problems of processing trade in Qingdao.
