| Urbanization is an important economic phenomenon in China since its opening to the outside world. It is also one of the central issues which have been paid attention to by the academic circles. There is an immense number of books and literature concerning urbanization of our country, from various angles, such as economic, political, social, cultural and so on. However, most of them focus on analyzing the ways, the modes of urbanization and the relationship between urbanization and industrialization or non-agriculture. Research on disparity of the degree of urbanization between different provinces are relatively rare.China has a vast territory. Provinces differ greatly in natural conditions and levels of economy. Moreover, each province has its own characteristics in many aspects. Thus, urbanization of each province can not be exactly the same. So there is no invariable mode. Decision-makers have to take different effective measures in different provinces. Therefore, it is quite necessary for us to find out provincial disparity of urbanization in China. That is the very purpose of this dissertation. In this dissertation, I first calculate the level of urbanization. I choose one reasonable formula to calculate it of thirty provinces in China, for the year 1990 and 2003. By contrasting per capita GDP of each province in these two years, I analyze the correlation between the level of urbanization and the level of economy. After that, I do some research into the correlation between the level of urbanization and the level of industrial structure. On the basis of these analysis, I classify the status of economy and urbanization of these thirty provinces, from the angles of per capita GDP and industrial structure. Moreover, I expand the range of this research to many other social and economic aspects, since we cannot perfectly explain provincial disparity of urbanization in China if just from the angles of economy and evolvement of industrial structure. So, I choose ten representative indexes to try to explain it. Then, I collect data of these ten indexes from the statistic yearbooks and apply them to factoring. I conclude them into four factors that affect urbanization in China: economy and social security, extraversion of economy, natural resources and industrial structure. After that, I applythose scores of the four factors to clustering. In the last part of this dissertation, I give my advice on the basis of the analysis and come up with different countermeasures to solve the problems that each province comes up against in the process of urbanization. The original characteristics of this dissertation are:1. Systematically analyzes the provincial disparity of urbanization in China from various aspects, to some extend supplies the gap of present research.2. Applies modern statistical approaches, including factoring and clustering, thus to make this dissertation not only more realistic but also more logical.3. Comes up with countermeasures of urbanization according to different conditions of different provinces, to some extend gives the academic basis to decision-makes in the government. |
