FDI In Dalian: Development And Strategic Analysis

Utilizing foreign funds is an important content of China's open- up policy, and it is an effective way for China to participate in economic globalization and to get comparative benefit. Foreign direct investment (FDI) in China has been one of the major success stories of the past two decades. Ranked by the stock of inward FDI, China has become the largest recipient worldwide. There is little doubt that FDI has contributed significantly to Chinese economic development.Dalian is one of the first fourteen coastal open-up city in China. As the most dynamic seaport city of Northern China, in recent two decades, Dalian has been succeeded in attracting and utilizing FDI, which played an important role in Dalian's rapid growth. Dalian becomes one of the five cities in China to attract the largest amount of foreign investment, with the highest amount of Japanese investment and venture in China. In 2004, Dalian was credited as Top 10 "CCTV Most Energetic City in China".Today, attracting high quality foreign investment has become one of the top priorities in most municipal governments' work, and it is significant to a city's competitive improvement. Based on exiting theory analysis, this thesis aims to show a comprehensive picture of FDI development in Dalian through analyzing its developing history, current situation and prospect. By summarizing experiences and lessons of FDI in Dalian, I hope it has some implications for domestic cities in the work of foreign funds attracting and utilizing.This thesis comprises six chapters. The first chapter presents exiting theory analysis of FDI. The second chapter points out the prospect for FDI worldwide and in China. The ensuing three chapters are the main parts of the thesis, showing FDI development, FDI impacts, and strategy anyalysis of FDI in Dalian. The sixth chapter makes some suggestions to promote FDI in Dalian.
