With the development of modern advanced manufacturing technology and productivity, the consumption level of customers has increased constantly, which leads to the lifecycle of products shortened. If the products produced cannot come to the customers, their values will continuously decrease because of deterioration, breakage or other more competitive products'disappearing, which will bring greater economic loss to the enterprise. Therefore, it is very important to study the inventory problem for deteriorating items.Firstly, the related literatures both at home and abroad about inventory models for deteriorating items are reviewed. The extensions of the models are researched from three aspects. Firstly, the deteriorating rate is assumed to be the function of current inventory level at any time and storage time, under the assumptions that shortages are allowed with zero lead time, and the backlogging rate is time-varying, an EOQ model for deteriorating items is established, and the optimal solutions are also analyzed. Secondly, the single order cycle is extended to multi order cycles, under the assumptions that the deteriorating rate follows two parameters Weibull distribution, the demand rate is the linear function of inventory, shortages are allowed with complete backlogging, an EOQ model is established and the optimal solutions of the model is also analyzed. At last, taking account the effect of delay in payment of purchase cost, an EOQ model is established under the assumptions that the selling rate is the linear function of inventory level; shortages are allowed with complete backlogging in planned horizon, the time value of money is also taken into consideration. The optimal solutions are also analyzed.According to the research content above, the aim of this paper lies in exploring the inventory characteristics of deteriorating items, improving enterprise'competence, and providing some theoretic evidence for managing the inventory of deteriorating items effectively.
