| In recent years, a growing trend on the study of theories of leadership is that research focusing on Charismatic leadership has been shifting the introduction of emotional intelligence. However, in China, such research combined with our own pratice is nearly empty.Therefore, effectiveness of leadership that the leadership behaviors of the charismatic leaders in Chinese enterprises can achieve and the interaction between charismatic leadership behivaor and subordinates'emotional intelligence are worth studying.This paper belongs to a subsidiary project of'Transformational/Transactional Leader Behavior and Follower Effectiveness: The Role of Emotional Intelligence(Supported by NSFC, No. 70572012)', which is sponsored by national science foundation. This paper is based on empirical research of leaders in Chinese companies. The data, samples from 40 enterprises in 10 big cities, primarily involve the leadership behaviors of charismatic leaders, emotional intelligence level of the subordinates and supervisors and subordinates'level of performance and working attitude. The survey target includes top leader, general high-level managers, middle managers and other staff. With a thorough statistical analysis of the experimental samples data, we conclude that, emotional intelligence significantly correlated with charismatic leadership behaviors; charismatic leadership behaviors are a positive correlation with subordinates'OCB and attitude including affective commitment, Continuance Commitment and self-confidence; More importantly, we also found that subordinates'emotional intelligence moderate the relationship between charismatic leadership behaviors and leadership effectiveness.The result of this study gives very strong application prospects for Chinese enterprises. Emotional intelligence which was put into the research in Chinese enterprises between charismatic leadership and leadership effectiveness will help leaders use emotional intelligence to create high performance. |
