Chain—an advanced modern commercial mode,which was praised as another revolutionary innovation of commercial mode,is influencing the business activity in worldwide.Now it is applied to all files of service industries in worldwide.Though chian is still underdeveloped in China,it is developing quickly and stepping into a new developing period.While some chain enterprises get great achievement,a lot of chain enterprises,especially the medium and small scale chain enterprices,meet the development bottleneck in reality.So it is necessary for us to carry research on scale which chain enterprise can reach and how to keep the chain enterprice developing. Howerer,there is few scholar who has carried systematic research on scale of the chain.So carrying on research on scale of the chain enterprice has import.ant theory meaning and realistic value.Basing on the achivements of scholars in and abroad,using the knowledge of Chain Operation and Management,Managerial Economics,Statistics and Logistics Management,the author carries systematic research on scale of the chain in Qualitative Approach and Quantitative Approach.The research focuses on the relationship of cost and scale in general developing course of Chain enterprise.The thesis introduces the basic knowledge of chain,such as growth process,development trend,the definition and classfication,and summarizes the cost advantage and general developping course of chain enterprice at frist.Using the knowledge of Economic Theory,the thesis discusses the question about the scale of chain enterprice preliminary in the third chapter.Then the thesis analyzes how the average cost varies with scale in Chain Preparation Stage,Regional Chain Stage and Trans-regional Chain Stage basing on general developping course of chain enterprise.The thesis also gets the model of relationship between average cost and scale of chain enterprice.The model shows that average cost varies with scale as an "U" in each area,so chain enterprices should keep the scale in optimum scale in each area.The author also comes to conclusion that average cost varies with scale as a "L" in the whole developing course of chain enterprice.It means the chain enterprice can expand limitlessly until there isn't a new area any more.In the end of the academic dissertation,basing on average cost controlling,the author points out the strategy in each stage of the chain enterprice developing course.
