With the accession to the WTO and global economic integration development, China's economy has shown rapid and sustained growth in the stability, which has greatly promoted the shipping industry and the development of the logistics industry. After Dec 1, 2005, WTO permission to enjoy special protection of the logistics transition period has ended, the foreign-funded enterprises in China can set up wholly-owned subsidiaries. That means that the further opening for shipping and logistics industry will take more intense competition, but will bring more vitality at the same time.This article first described the concept and the formation of multimodal transport, and introduced his development on the history and current situation from the domestic and international aspects. Secondly, the article analyzed and discussed how China shipping company deals with the world's economic development situation and their own industry trends, and raised a view of "Chinese shipping companies divert to the integrated logistics business, and multimodal transport becomes an important component". At the same time, it compared that the development of multi-transportation advantages and disadvantages between Chinese and foreign shipping enterprises. Multimodal transport is an entire cargo transport by containers as the main vector. Therefore, this paper analyzed the next international and domestic container transport market, and made a simple forecast for the container shipping market. Then, the shipping companies' multimodal transport development strategy is analyzed and explained. Finally, this paper made an outlook about the shipping companies' multimodal transport development, and made some measures and proposals of the shipping companies' multimodal transport development.
