Foreign enterprises' operational success in China partially depends upon the factor cross-cultural adaptation.Since cross-cultural adaptation or acculturation could be a bi-directional process(Zhong & Lee,2003),the successful acculturation of foreign enterprises in China may still require Chinese employees' adaptation devotion except for the effort made by the foreign side in localization. The author of this paper will mainly commit herself to the research of acculturation status of Chinese staff and acculturation factors in foreign enterprises, especially those who work under French managers. As an arena for global capital,China attracts investment of various origins, among which French enterprises play an impressive part.Leading French businesses have all flooded into China to establish their own subsidiaries for business expansion. To study Chinese employees' devotion of adaptation to French enterprises' localization in the country, the present research is carded out through statistical analysis using the methods descriptive test and Pearson correlation.A specially designed 26-item survey scale combining Dodd(1991),Zhong Mei and Lee Suman's (2003) questionnaires is administered to the 71 Chinese and 33 French voluntary participants in Valeo,Citeroen,Christian Dior and Decathlon Shanghai.Data obtained from the questionnaire is processed in SPSS 16.0.The results indicate that the Chinese employees as a whole tend to be less adapted in the French enterprises and be significantly influenced by the two factors, time and expectation in terms of successful acculturation. It should also be noted that unlike the findings of the previous studies, the two factors--preparation and communication skills are insignificantly correlated with the Chinese employees' final acculturation. Moreover, among all the contributing factors to acculturation, only preparation is in positive correlation with the anticipation state in a significant way. Hopefully the results presented in the present thesis can on one hand serve to offer some implications to practical cross-cultural adaptation for Chinese employees in French enterprises. On the other hand, the author also intends to shed some light on the acculturation study of China through the discussion of the results.
