Special tourism is a new form of tourism in recent years; it is one kind of tourism products based on local special resources, special culture and special environment. Chongqing has had the conditions for developing special tourism. However, the development of special tourism products is not enough, far from satisfying the needs of tourists and does little contribution to the development of Chongqing tourism. Thus, it has more important practical significance.Analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of developing special tourism by SWOT analysis in Chongqing. (1) Strengths:rich special tourism resources; favorable locational conditions; strong accessibility of tourism; have some basis for the development of tourism; a broad tourist market; sound economic basis; unique cultural atmosphere; introduced a number of preferential policies for tourism development; (2) Weaknesses:pay little attention to special tourism development; tourism products structure is irrational; lack of tourism professionals; (3) Opportunities:opportunities brought by tourism development into the era of personalization; opportunities brought by implementing Western Development Strategy; opportunities brought by the Three Gorges Project; opportunities brought by China's sustained rapid economic growth; opportunities brought by sustainable development of home and aboard tourism; opportunities brought by the prevailing of sustainable development; opportunities brought by " five Chongqing" construction; (4) Threats:the competition of similar products in surrounding areas is becoming increasingly fierce; the threat posed by the global economic crisis. The analysis showed that the development of special tourism products in Chongqing has more strengths than weaknesses, more opportunities than threats, and offensive strategy should be taken. Thus, to develop special tourism products, Chongqing should take the following measures:relevant government departments should attach more attention to the development of special tourism products; plan special tourism products scientifically; strength promotions and establish a good brand image; extend and broaden the length and width of special tourism products, and combine appropriately; implement the rational pricing mechanism; expand investment and financing channels, lift the funding bottlenecks in the process of developing special tourism products; focus on community participation in the process of developing special tourism products; increase training intensity of tourism expertise.
