Strategic Choices To Improve The Core Competitiveness Of City Commercial Banks

City commercial banks are the local joint-stock commercial banks which were set up in the basis of urban credit cooperatives. The development of city commercial banks, optimizes a diversified financial system, promotes the level of financial services and enriches domestic financial market and supports the local construction. As the reformation of the state-owned commercial banks, joint-stock commercial banks, rural cooperative associations and post-office savings banks and the entry of foreign banks, the city commercial banks in our country have been challenged greatly. And it is inevitable for them to cultivate and promote their core competitiveness at the time.Firstly, based on the theory of enterprise's core competitiveness, this paper makes clear conception of enterprise's competitiveness, enterprise's core competitiveness and competitive advantage and defines core competitiveness of commercial banks. Furthermore, the paper raises the basic elements of city commercial banks'core competitiveness combining with the operation characteristics of city commercial banks and a competitiveness evaluation system was built which contains index of two levels: surface competitiveness index and core competitiveness index. Both qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis were used to compare the surface competitiveness of the city commercial banks with that of state-owned commercial banks and joint-stock commercial banks. And it completely and profoundly opened out the position and the competitiveness status of the city commercial banks. And then the paper put forward an evaluation methodology of core competitiveness of city commercial banks. Last, after the SWOT analysis to city commercial banks, the paper puts emphasis on four measures: market positioning, corporate governance, financial environment, finance innovation to enhance competitiveness of city commercial bank and raise several strategies and measures.
