In January 2002, China's Securities Regulatory Commission and State Economicand Trade Commission issued , whichdemanded the listed companies set up Audit Committees under the boards of directors.Like the supervisor boards, setting up Audit Committees was an important step toperfect our listed companies governance, lots of scholars didn't think the supervisorboards exhibit their duties, then did the Audit Committees perform their functions andimprove the information disclosure quality? In this article, we tried to answer thisquestion accurately. We evaluated the effectiveness of the Audit Committees using adifference-in-difference approach, which filled the gap that the single-directionresearch approach couldn't obtain an accurate result. Then, we tested the AuditCommittees'lagging effect and did the robust test to strengthen our result. By doingthese, we found that: the information disclosure quality and Audit Committees weresignificant positive correlated and in the year which the Audit Committees set up andthe following years, the listed companies'information disclosure quality was improvedgreatly. Our result verified that the Audit Committees did improve the listed companies'information disclosure quality and their effect was not lagged.
