Under the background of economic globalization, the relations between foreign direct investment (FDI) and international trade has become more and more close, which are the two most important parts of international economy contraction. Many scholars have paid more attention to the relations between FDI and international trade from different perspectives. The qualitative and empirical analysis on the effects of FDI on export indicates that, FDI has a positive impact on international trade of the home country, even the impacts are different from various industry and diversified motive. FDI influence the export scale, export production structure and export direction. Under the new international economic condition and background of the" go out" strategy, FDI has become the unavoidable choice of the enterprises in our country.This paper includes six parts. The first part is the introduction. In this part, the background and meaning of this topic is introduced. Under the background of economic globalization, the research on the relations between foreign direct investment (FDI) and export has both the theoretical and practical significance. In the second part, this article reviews relevant theories about this topic. The third part is the presentation of the status quo of FDI and export in our country. Although FDI and export develop quickly in the recent years in our country, both of them face lots of problems to be solved. The fourth part analyzes the different effects of FDI on export between USA and Japan. The fifth part makes both a qualitative analysis and a quantitative analysis on the effects of FDI on export in our county. The qualitative analysis focuses on the way of the effects of FDI on export. And in the quantitative analysis, this part concludes that in the short run, FDI has substitution effect on export while in the long run, FDI has complementary effect on export. The sixth part is the suggestion on how to coordinate the relations between foreign direct investment and export of our country.
