With the rapid economic development, road traffic conditions improved significantly and the rapid increase in highway mileage, automobile will become more and more professional, high-speed and heavy, to promote the increasing demand of special purpose vehicle year by year. Special purpose vehicle has become the main vehicles in transportation and various special purposes, and played an important role in the automobile industry. However, with the rapid development of special purpose vehicle industry, there are some problems such as surplus production models, some models in short supply and insufficient production capacity. The basic characteristic of overcapacity in the automotive industry is structural surplus, which is also the main problem in the development of the current auto industry. Therefore, researching and analyzing on the market characteristics and the development status of special purpose vehicle of China and looking into the development trend of special purpose vehicle, is important to promote the development of special purpose vehicle industry, adjust development strategy of enterprise and improve the competitiveness.This paper analyzes the development status of special purpose vehicle in China from the variety, grades, R & D capabilities and market competitiveness, according to the development process of special purpose vehicle of China in recent years, such as changing process of the production, product structure, imports and exports. Finally it dedicates the existing gaps between China and developed countries and the issues during the development in the scale of enterprises, product construction, technological content and process equipment. In order to better develop the special purpose vehicle and improve market competitiveness, this paper evaluates the competitiveness of the special automotive industry and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of regional development of Special Purpose Vehicle by factor analysis and fuzzy clustering, and it predicts the demand for the next few years with the combined forecasting model, according to the actual data of special purpose vehicle production in China since 2000. The results of evaluation and prediction will play an important guiding role in coordinating the supply and demand of special purpose vehicle and avoiding the mistakes in investment decision-making caused by out of control. It analyzes the future market-specific focus and the development trends of industries and product in the background of economic development in China, pointing out that special purpose vehicle industry will make reasonable use of resources through the joint venture structure and asset restructuring, and that products are gradually shifting to high-tech products from traditional products. It is inevitable that products of special purpose vehicle will oriented toward high-tech and high value-added, and medium and long-distance transport of vehicles will oriented toward specialization, high-speed, heavy-duty, multi-axis oriented, and short-distance transport and the city logistics vehicles will oriented toward lighter and van. Finally it puts forward some suggestions from the government and enterprises based on the foreign experience and national conditions of China, such as, guiding and supporting the special purpose vehicle industry, optimizing and recombining the special purpose vehicle enterprises, adjusting the industrial structure, improving product quality and technology, increasing the kinds of product, and gradually conversing management of the special purpose vehicle industry and developing new market.Most articles focus on the qualitative research on the development status of the special purpose vehicle and have not involved in the comprehensive including qualitative and quantitative study on the development status and trends of the special purpose vehicle. This paper establishes the index system based on the development status of special purpose vehicle, evaluating the competitiveness of various regions of China with factor analysis and fuzzy clustering, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses in the development of the special purpose vehicle, and forecasting the future demand with the combined forecasting model.There are some shortcomings in the course of the study. Data collection of the special purpose vehicle has a certain degree of difficulty. Because the statistical standards of various enterprises are not the same, such as some include semi-trailer while some do not include, some include special purpose vehicle chassis while some do not include, so the annual statistics exist some difference.
