microRNA172 mediates photoperiodic flowering in Arabidopsis and its targets are APETALA2-Like genes. including AP2. TOE1, TOE2 and so on. Overexpression of micro 172 results in early flowering, which is like ap2 mutant. Although environment stress causes the promotion of flowering.whether miR172 is involved in the flowering time under stress condition is unknown. The promoter regions of miR172 members all contain many different stress-responsive cis-acting elements. Semi-quantitative reverse transcription-PCR(RT-PCR) analysis indicates that mannitol or LiCl induces the expression of miR172a-1.We demonstrate that overexpression of miRNA172a-1 or miRNA172b-2 leads to more lateral roots.but there is no growth suppression comopared with the wild type. This implicates that they are involved in different stess responses respectively.RT-PCR and electrical conductivity analyses suggest that miRNA172 is induced under drought condition.
