With the rapid development of lntemet, more and more people tak intoaccount releasina information on Web. ln l990's, WebGIS which releases spatialinfOrmation on Web grew uP in GIS field. WebGIS researches how to share andtransmit spatial geogtaPhic information, how to design and develop relativesoftware in netWork environment.MaPNotes is an embedded WebGIS platform. Software developers can use itto develop various specific WebGIS, setting and releasing geographic informationon Iniernet or Intranet.In MapNotes, typical fat server/thin client mode is adopted. MaPNotes hasthree partS, which are MaPAdmin, MaPCells and ASP packets.An advanced Oriented-Object software engineering caIled Unified SoftwareDevelopment Process is used in developing MaPNotes. The whole workflowincludes requirement capture, analysis and design, impIementation, test anddeployment.Based on the analysis of exishng commercial WebGIS, This paper putsforward the technological scheme of MaPNotes, introduces the design anddevelopment in detail.
