For determining working parameters during the pipe-laying operation with a lay-barge, the laying method and other working situation of the pipeline must be analyzed. The analysis of pipeline mainly includes two facet: establishing mathematical model and numerical calculation.The aspect of non-linearity, elasticity and large deformation of the pipeline considered, the pipeline is regarded as elastic large deflection beam model. The differential equations are established according to the large deflection beam theory, spline functions are used as trial functions to simulate the deformation curves of the pipeline, the differential equations are deduced to non-linear coupled equations by using collocation method of weighted residuals method, non-linear coupled equations can be solved.The aspect of non-linearity caused by deformation of the pipeline may not be considered in the swallow sea if rigidity of the pipeline is high enough, linear beam model is established for the pipeline and solved by using finite element method. The results obtained through above-mentioned method are contrasted. Though the way of linear beam model and finite element method has characteristics of high calculating speed, it has certain localization that this method is suitable for the analysis of pipeline in the swallow sea, else unacceptable errors appear. The way of large deflection beam and collocation method also has high calculating speed and acceptable accuracy .The way of large deflection beam and collocation method is mainly used to analyze the static and dynamic problems of the pipeline, abandon and recovery and other working condition in the swallow and deep sea. Based on this, the computer programs are made out with object-oriented method. This computer program has characteristics of friend interface, high calculating speed, broad common use and acceptable accuracy.
