The theory and method of the geostationary satellite positioning based on roadare systematically discussed.The geostationary satellite positioning system of China is a region sateIlitenavegation system. If the Digital Elevation Model-DEM is used to determine theuser's position, the height error will be one of the biggest factors that decrease thepositioning accuracy and it will be never eliminated by using difference methods.Therefore, it is very significant to study the ways of eliminating the height error.A method of the geostationary sate1lite positioning based on road is presentedand two positioning ways, series method and lax method, are discussed in moredetails. Instead of the DEM, the accurate information of the spatial road, on whichis the usef, is used in the very positioning method. So the 3D-positioning problembecomes one parameter calculation. Following that, the positioning accuracy isdiscussed and the error analysis is also given in several cases, i.e. different roadparameters and user positions. Then a vector road database is designed at therequest of the system and the method. ln the end, some concrete prob1ems arediscussed and a set of software through integrating MaPInfo with VC is developed.Theoretical ana1ysis and some numerical simulation are also given to show itsvalidity and feasibility...
