The metabolic functions and clinical applications of the important metabolic intermediate, S-adenosyl-L-methionine(SAM), were reviewed. The process in preparation and stability of SAM was introduced. Some problems that should be studied deeply were suggested. Large scaled-up production of SAM will be promising in china.
