A spherical functions analysis scheme is expounded to analysis the monthly mean temperature field by using the results of the spherical functions assay of the height field. We using it principally study the spectral structure of the spherical function of the NCEP/NCAR monthly mean temperature field and its anomaly field. Results show that the climate and anomaly field of monthly mean temperature is characterized by low-order. On this basis, the paper mainly analyzed seasonal and height variation of the spectral structure of the spherical function and the difference of this variation between the southern and northern hemisphere. And for another , the correlation analysis between the real air temperature and the NCEP atmosphere temperature and the analysis of interannual change show that the quality of NCEP atmosphere temperature is useful in the study of climate abnormality.
