Hydrogeologic profile is the most intuitionistic and effectual expression of hydrogeologic stratum. It shows the structure of aquifer and the sedimentary rule of stratum visually. It can offer gists on systematically analyzing the area of geological condition and rightly coaching the exploiture and management on groundwater resource.Presently, hydrogeologic profile is mostly drew by handcraft or by some software such as CAD or Excel linking with some programme languages. However, the traditional handcraft method is so inefficient that it cannot meet with OA in the management on geologic setting and engineering construct. By CAD technology, it can improve the degree of automatization, yet lacking of GIS function such as special analysis and topology. While the application of the component GIS technology in hydrogeology can build the hydrogeologic profile automatically and rapidly on the basic of special orderliness of hydrogeologic stratum. On the other hand, supported by GIS, the system has superiority in spatial query, edition of profile and dynamic topological rebuilding.Taking the void hydrogeologic profile as an example, this paper discusses the necessary and stringency on studying the automatic generate method of hydrogeologic profile, showing that it's a practical meaningful work. On the basic of analyzing the spatial distribution of the hydrogeologic stratum, it abstracts the concept module of the void hydrogeologic profile, and sets down the rule on making up the stratum section, it also analyses the data structure and the steps of automatic generating the hydrogeologic profile, and discusses the appliancation of component GIS on the the automatic generate method.Taking Changzhou--Wujin area as pilot study area, the automatic generating of the hydrogeologic profile based on component GIS is achieved.
