Polycrystalline diamond compact bit (PDC bit) is one of facilities in the drilling of petroleum and natural gas, and its capability, especially the rationality of the placing of cutting is very important to the speed and cost of drilling. PDC bit has highly sensitive to speciality of rock, so its design is very changeful. The placing of cutting is the most importance season to impact the capability of PDC bit.In the research of the geometry of PDC bit , the essential geometry equations of PDC bit are derived. And the theory of mapping with five point is instituted according to the equations. With the theory we can compute the parameters of cutting. The rules of the movement of the cuttings in bottom of well are studied. Successionally, the mechanism, the jeopardize and the types of the convolution are particularly discussed, and the kinematics condition of occurring the convolution is ensured. The way of decreasing the convolution are put forward. On the basis of the essential geometry equations of PDC bit the way of computing the contacting angle contacting is found. The working angles are defined, and it can accurately embody the working state of the blade of cutting. In research of the theory and methods PDC bit placing design, new approaches to design optimal bit crown, backrake and siderake , etc. are found, the predictive models of PDC bit performance are establisher. Aiding at all of the research, a set of design and plot software is developed with C and AutoLisp.
