From the 1960's, Technology of polarization has widely developed with the advert of the first ruby laser. It has been a kind of specialization means of optical measurement, metering and light information process. It has been widely used in many sections such as coherent measure, light commutation, light modulation, heterodyne detection, thin film parameter measurement, biological cell fluorescence measurement and image identifying etc.With the rapid development of polarization technology, it is important to measure the polarization character of light beam and substance, and people hope the quality of polarization devices to be more and more perfect. So they develop and set up many methods and systems to measure stokes parameters, polarization degree, Jones vector, Jones matrix, Mueller matrices, retardation of wave plate, etc. In 1948,Muller has designed a kind of 4×4 matrix called Muller matrix in order to describe the character of the optical element. The notation of Muller matrix is one of the three polarized modulation technologies and the powerful design, analysis mathematics tool of polarization modulation system. It is simple to handle propagation of light beam. However, Muller matrix of element is defined through experiment other than the method of theory and the measurement of sixteen element of matrix is complex and difficult. In this paper, a set of intellect measurement system of Muller matrix designed on the base of conventional method of measurement has obtained the sixteen elements of Muller matrix.After searching and reading many theses and dissertations, In general, there are two methods that can detect the energy distribution of transversal surface of the light. They are photosensitivity and scansion. However, the two methods have some shortage such as being short of information, great inaccuracy and being unable to detect and display at real time. After screening and comparisoncarefully, we choose CCD, a new optical-electrical converter with stable performance, as the score device of the measurement system. We do many experiments. We do much work especially in the way of choosing device, designing the light path, working out procedure code, determine working condition and so on. Finally, we exploit a set intelligent measurement system of Muller matrix. This is an optical-mechanical -electrical-computerized system. We programmed a set of software using visual basic in Windows2000 Professional to control the measurement system. The software is intelligent, it can operate the system, analyse data and result. It can measure the Muller matrix automatically. The experiment results coincide with the theory. The system has achieved its goal. This thesis is stated from the following aspect.In the first Chapter, we mainly introduce the history of Muller matrix and the signifcance of measurement Muller matrix. We also introduce new light intensity detector-CCD briefly. In the second Chapter, we mainly introduced the prime knowledge of Muller matrix and the notation of Stokes vector close relatively. In the third chapter, we stated two programme of the measurement system and the latter one is built on the base of measurement system of the Stokes vector and is mainly innovation in this paper.The forth chapter is the score of the thesis. In this section, the design of Muller matrix's measurement system is the innovation in this paper. There is a measure of polarization apparatus produced in our institute and got the result of measurement. In this part, the method of adjustment light-path, steps of test and measurement, system flowchart and windows menu are provided. In the fifth chapter, the experimental devices used in the system are given, and we analysed the sources of the inaccuracy and the methods of reducing the inaccuracy.
