With the development of semiconductor technology and electronic information technology, the density and speed of very large scale integration (VLSI) are growing up rapidly. The analysis of time domain response of multiconductor transmission lines used as interconnection lines in VLSI is becoming a basic link to ensure good performance of the high speed electronic information system. In order to analyze the time response of the interconnection and package structure, people have to make electromagnetic modeling and parameter extraction, which play an important role in the design stage of electronic system. It is the foundation of the following work. The subject of this dissertation is electromagnetic modeling and parameter extraction of high speed integrated circuits, and corresponding method study. Accuracy and efficiency are two aspects to be concerned, and the later is given more attention for the sake of practical usage in EDA/CAD. This dissertation has made the following researches:1. For lossy interconnect lines, the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is used to extract equivalent circuit parameters. Combined with compact FDTD method, graded mesh partitioning technique, alternating direction implicit (ADI) technique and signal curve-fitting prediction approach, the computation burden is tremendously cut down and the simulation efficiency is greatly enhanced. 2. Due to the difficulty in extracting attenuation constant accurately, a new modified compact FDTD method is applied to analyzing lossy interconnect lines to give accurate results. 3. The hybrid FDTD algorithm is applied to analyzing coplanar waveguide (CPW) structures, and their propagation characteristics can be obtained accurately and efficiently.Fortran programs have been written for all above approaches and some work has been done in software realization.
