With the aim at the investigation of the properties and mechanical behaviors of woven fabrics, the papers explains the new way that we gain the geometrical model of woven fabrics. In the first, we set up mathematical model of fabrics. When the fabrics are woven by yarns (in this paper ,we assumes that yarn cross-section in a fabric is circular) , the each yarn of the fabrics will has definite shape (path). This shape (path) like spline function should follow the minimum energy principle that involves the work done by applied loads, the extending strain energy and the bending strain energy of yarns. We can use the minimum energy principle to solve out the shape (path) of yarns in fabrics, and put forward a scientific way to describe the properties and mechanical behaviors of woven fabrics. This paper explains the modelling and solutions of woven fabrics based on the principle of minimum potential energy. Compared to the previous work, the solutions described in this paper has led to more realistic fabric geometric models.
