| It's essential for the theory of the arc-shaped coast to discuss a problem of transportation, equilibrium and stability of sediment in the process of coast's evolution. Based on the principles of both physiognomy in the history and physiognomy of coast dynamics, by the means of both the historical and modern processes, making use of relativity analysis of factors from arc-shaped coastline, and Principal Component Analysis, and designing dynamic mode of the arc-shaped coast dominated by the estuary, the paper took the typical arc-shaped coast from Linhong Estuary to Xishu for example, and made a study on the coastline evolution of the Haizhou Bay. Historical literatures and atlas, multi-temporal Remote Sensing data, data of Geographic Information System, terrain data and hydrological data were applied to the study. The emphases of the study consist of coastline evolution by Linhong estuary in near 50 years, the estuary's silting and development of the arc-shaped coast from Linhong estuary to Xishu. The chief conclusions obtained are as followed:(1) coastline evolution of Haizhou BayIn the area, in the evolutive course of entironment, the coastline went seaward and plain of accumulation increasingly expanded to orientation. To sum up, it arose from eustacy, transportation of sediment and lithosphere uplift relatively of the region due to the neo-tectonic movement. It's validated from distributing of sediment-Banks and conchiferous Banks, which represented different historical coastlines. And nowadays, with decrease of sediment runoff, the rates of increase of coastal land are slower and slower.(2) development of Linhong River and advancing of it's estuaryLinhong River is the primary river in the area, and main source of sediment for modern coastline going seaward. Since Mountain Yuntai merging into land in 1851 and modern Haizhou Bay coming into being, the advancing rates of Linhong estuary obviously are expedited. The alluvial extent reached 10km from 1855 to 1957, and the average rate is 90.4m/a. The rate is gradually slower near 20 years. And in the period of 2003 -2005, the rate is merely 20m/a. With equilibrium and stability of sediment, advancing of the estuary would cease and it would be localized.(3) formal development of the arc-shaped coast from Linhong estuary to Xishu The particularity of the arc-shaped coast embodied as followed: (i) developmentof most arc-shaped coasts based on sandy coasts, but the type of the arc-shaped coast is silting-muddy coast; (ii) in common, headlands of sandy arc-shaped coasts are from... |
