This paper researches the application of clearance meshing technique to sabot of APDS and puts the sabot of 30mm APDS which has project background in practice. Analyzing by transient dynamic analysis using ANSYS, the paper applies numerical calculations to 30mm APDS which has initial contacts and different clearance meshing schemes. Optimizing clearance of the sabot and finding the excellent clearance scheme can make the maximal stress equivalent of each tooth surface be average. While applying the technique of meshing clearance to the aluminum alloy sabot, results show that, compared with the traditional meshing scheme of sabot, the stress of the dangerous tooth surface minishes largely. Also the stress level of each tooth surface tends to be highly closer to the others' while applies the new scheme. Then the paper analyses the base structure of the short fiber reinforced composite sabot. When applying the meshing clearance to the composite sabot, mat finds the technique of meshing clearance can reduce the stress of dangerous tooth surface and bring the teeth of the sabot into play. Also results show that optimizing clearance of the sabot can take the maximal stress of each tooth into close. The achievements of the research in this paper are feasible technical approaches to decrease the disturbance of sabot-discarding of armor piercing projectile and to improve the density of shots, also can enhance the probability of the first shot hits in target. So the meshing clearance technique is a feasible method for the sabot design with the materials of low density and low intensity.
