With the development of embedded operating system and GIS, the embedded GIS have been the hot point of research on GIS domain. The embedded GIS have broad application values in many fields such as topography, intelligent traffic, maritime affairs, national defence and police.In this thesis, an embedded GIS running on Windows CE simulator is designed based upon the analysis and research of some algorithms, including the display of the digital map, terrain analysis and the conversion of different geographic data formats. Firstly, on the basis of the analysis of geographic data format, we realize the display of the digital map and carry out moving, zooming in and zooming out map with the algorithm of generating polygons automatically and coordinate theories. Secondly, we realize the terrain analysis (including distance calculation, area calculation, slope analysis, section analysis and visibility analysis) based on the improvement of some terrain analysis algorithms. Finally, by comparing geographic data format, shapefile geographic data format and Mif geographic data format, we realize the conversion of the three geographic data formats.Based upon the algorithms and technique mentioned in the thesis, an embedded GIS running on Windows CE simulator, which has the friendly interface and independent functional modules, is realized with Visual C#.NET. As an embedded GIS platform, experiments show that it has met the needs of practical applications.
