The geoid has displayed basic geometry and physical characteristic of the earth, is a curved surface playing a basic role in defining and setting up the system of coordinates of geodetic surveying. Refining the global and regional geoid constantly, it is a long-term strategic task of geodetic surveying. At present, the research about the regional geoid or quasi-geoid both at home and abroad currently uses astro-geodetic gravity, leveling, EDM, GPS(Global Positioning System), DEM(Digital Elevation Model) datum,etc, the methods are summed up: Geometirc method (Astronomical leveling, Satellite altimetry and GPS / Leveling,etc), Physical geodesy method and geometry with gravity union method(claim Combination method).In the west plateau mountain area Of our country,its altitude is high, it is violent for topography to rise and fall, the gravity anomaly value is big and the range of its variation is biger. The main reason influencing the Hypsography's change of the geoid of the plateau mountain area is a violent change of the topography and the asymmetry of the distribution of the topographical quality and the rock density.In the plateau mountain area of Yunnan where the gravity data is insufficient and difficult to observe on a large scale, its topographical materials and rock density materials are sufficient and reliable, We can utilize the disturbance potential related to topographical quality and rock density to determine the deflection of the vertical and the height anomaly closely related to geoid, use them to refine the geoid of the plateau mountain area and will obtain the good result.The article has explained the research status quo of the domestic and international geoid at first, has analyzed the development pattern of geographic information system, the comGIS characteristic and present domestic and foreign comGIS product, has introduced the mathematical model of the isostasy deflection of the vertical in detail, based on the calculation principle of the isostasy deflection of the vertical, adopts ESRI's AO (ArcObjects) package and visual developing instrument(Visual Basic). Based on DEM, the focus of this paper is to discuss the automation realization of Refining the geoid of theplateau mountainous area, construct the corresponding software system that can accomplish the function of voluntarily overlaying, extracting, analysing, handling, calculating the isostasy deflection of the vertical and the height anomaly and calculating the the height anomaly of the given points of the local region according to the height anomaly of the known GPS/Leveling survey points.
