Geological environment problems occupy important position in today's environment problems, and geological hazard strongly restrict the development of national economy in some seriously hazard regions. At present, the researches of geological hazard concentrate on the post-hazard study, poor primitive on potential geological hazard. Field investigation and the remote sensing data show that the amount of potential geological hazard is far more than the happened geological hazard. Potential geological hazard strongly threaten human beings' life and wealth. In addition, the research of potential geological hazard is a globally research, and it will be the hotspot studying and frontiers in international and national geological field. It has a more vital academic significance.The definition of potential geological hazard was given in this thesis, based on the considerable research of our predecessors, applied the theories of geology, geomorphology and landslidology, and combined with the definition and classification of geological hazard. Also, the definition of potential slope geological hazard was put out in consideration of the definition and classification of slope geological hazard. Furthermore, this article has analyzed and summarized the identification symbol and form conditions of potential slope geological hazrd, and proposed the definition of "potentiality parameter". According to geological analogy, applying Analytic Hierarchy Process and comprehensive index model, established a quantitative evaluation models of potential geological hazard. And proposed a "potentiality parameter" zoning approach of regional potential slope geological hazard, established the initial analysis and research system of potential slope geological hazard.In this paper, the form condition and the distribution rules of potential slope geological hazard in Kunming were educed by collecting the geological data, investigating in situ, typical case analyzing and researching the cause of formation of slope geological hazard, distribution etc. Basing on the research of development status and formation mechanisms, and choose the leading factors which deeply influenced on geological hazard, established the quantitative indices system of evaluation factor, and then, established the quantitative evaluation models of potential slope geological hazard in Kunming. Finally, it accomplished the calculation and zonation of "potentiality parameter" of potential slope geological hazard. According to the result of zonation, Kunming was divided into 5 degree areas which have different potentiality parameter of potential slope geological hazard. The 5th degree "potentiality parameter" zonation occupying 5.61% of the total area of Kunming, the 4th degree "potentiality parameter" zonation occupying 36.25%, the 3th degree "potentiality parameter" zonation occupying 36.11%, the 2th degree "potentiality parameter" zonation occupying14.85%, and the 1th degree "potentiality parameter" zonation occupying7.18%. The results shows that the potential slope hazard are comparative serious in Kunming.This paper presents a suit of theory and method system which used to analyses and research the potential slope geological hazard. Comparing with the field data, the Model calculation showed a higher reliability and credibility, and the results of zonation can be used as the basis data for the forecast and warning of geological hazard danger in Kunming...
