Computer generated holography (CGH) is a technology which realizes thehologram producing with computers. Compared with traditional optical holography,CGH has unique advantages and great flexibility, which makes the hologramproducing procedure easier and advances the hologram producing efficiency. A newmethod of producing color holograms with CGH was proposed and its validity wastestified through experiments. There are five steps of realizing true color CGH. The first step is choosing thetrue color image. True color images generated by computer were chosen in this paperand they were processed using image-processing software according to therequirements of program design. The second step is color decomposing. True colorimages were decomposed into three basic images according to the thee-basic-colortheory. The third step is coding. The three basic images were transformed in Fourierstyle using Lohman coding method and MATLAB. Computers coded the transformedfunctions. The fourth step is generating holograms. The coded holograms were printedand lessened by photography to get the true color CGH films. The last step isreconstruction. The CGH films were reconstructed both in computer and optically inthis paper. The most important work is to design the program of true color CGH and solvereplacement problems of reconstructed images using three-basic-color theory andFourier transform shift invariant. This paper contains several main contents. The first part mainly introduces thedevelopment history and status quo of CGH. The second part discusses the basictheory of CGH and true color CGH. The third part brings up the plan of theexperiment, including generating black-white CGH, reconstructing of black-whiteCGH, generating true color CGH, reconstructing of true color CGH. The fourth partconcerns analysis and summarization of the experiments results, analyses thefeasibility of true color CGH and problems occurred in the experiments, discusses themethods of improving the experiments results.
