Kang Youwei Technology Thought

The Reform Movement of 1898 was a boundary tablet of modernhistory of science and technology which inherited the past and ushered inthe future. Kang Youwei, as a leader, his scientific thoughts opened up theway of Chinese enlightening campaign and pushed the development ofChinese modern science and had an important position in modern historyof scientific thoughts. Kang Youwei was the first person who linked thedevelopment of science and technology to the reform of the feudalityclosely in the modern history of China. He called on the constitutionalreform urgently and participated in the politics of the supreme authorities ofChina, which made him confirm the development of science and technologyof China from a high level, and he traced back to the reasons that caused thecurrent situation. His opinions founded in his memorials and treatises,although had not been a system yet, his insight was deep and provoking.His scientific and technological thoughts played a very important role inintroducing western scientific and technical achievements to China, inchanging Chinese civilian opinion on science and technology, in improvingthe traditional atmosphere of despising technology for a thousand of years,and in establishing the new image of modern science, which could not beignored. In recent ten years, the researches and comments on Kang Youweihave become heated in the field of history study. Kang Youwei's historicalvalue and his time value were admitted by the Chinese and foreignacademia again. It's a pity that his thoughts, as very important scientific andtechnological thoughts, just mentioned in Duan Zhiwen's "China'sModern Scientific and Cultural History", Guo Jinbin's " China's History ofmodern science thoughts ", Zhong Peixian's" Kang Youwei ThoughtResearch " except these there are seldom works discussing his thoughts specifically. The thesis aims at introducing Kang Youwei's scientific andtechnological thoughts in an all-round way, digging his thoughtssystematically, and collecting his main thoughts through reading, analyzinga lot of his works and the works about his scientific and technologicalthoughts. The thesis describes these thoughts from five respects: traditionalscience to modern science, elucidating the material-usage scientific view,setting up the new exploration of the system of development in science andtechnology, the method and spirit of positivism, creating a deductionmethod to study the social science problems with geometry. On this basis,the thesis explains Kang Youwei's scientific and technological thoughts on ahigher level, and revalues them objectively and wholly.
