Water and soil resources are the most important substance that human live on. With the development of industry and agriculture, the environment pollution of Beijing becomes more and more serious, which dose great threat to those inhabitants' health. It is of important significance for us to apply multivariate statistical methods and artificial neural network (ANN) to analyze the quality of soil and water in Beijing on the base of GIS.Many functions were included in the EnviCAADs, such as data input, edited, analyzed and so on, and set up two databases of the quality standard and pollution of environment. The first included many countries' standards of soil and water, the second not only include basic methods of evaluating environment and multivariate statistical methods, but also artificial neural network which was improved according to the principles of geosciences and environment science. Therefore, researchers can get more information from the data, and thus make the result of evaluation and analysis more justness and explained easily.The distribution of inorganic elements,OCPs and PAHs in soil, and OCPs and Bap in groundwater were analyzed by EnviCAADS, and soil quality was estimated according to the country quality standard. It found that most of all soil quality in Beijing belonged toⅢand the inhabitants' healths in Beijing have been done harm by Hg. The soil also was polluted by other pollutant.With hierarchical cluster analysis and factor analysis, the main pollutants and their possible origins have been studied. Water and soil in the city zone of Beijing were recognized by the pattern of artificial neural network (Kohonen). The region was divided into 11 cells and contaminated resources of each cell were analyzed. The results were the followings: the quantity of organic and inorganic pollutants was high in the city zone, the main inorganic pollutants were Cu,Hg,Zn,Pb and P, comparatively, the organic pollutants were complicated and difficult to define. As for their origin, Hg,Pb came from combustion of fuel fossil of coal and the gas let out by automobile, the origin of Zn and Cu was uncertain; The organ chlorine (OC) came from pesticides with OC and PAH pollutants came from the gas let out by automobile and coal combustion.
