As we know, petroleum resource is one of the most vital non-renewable energy resources in the world today, and petroleum detection plays an important role in petroleum exploitation. With the improvement in the level of oil exploration, nowadays most of the remaining reservoirs are at a low porosity, low penetration rate and low resistivity. More and more attention is paid to the detection of this oil and gas reservoirs by most of countries. Therefore, the three-dimensional induction logging technology, which is able to detect formation of the electric anisotropy and evaluate accurately the physical properties of reservoir, has become one of the focal points in recent years. This paper is just carried out in the above mentioned background.First of all, in theory, a systematic analysis of the characteristics and the difficulty of three-dimensional induction logging technology is made in this paper, which provides a theoretical basis for the design of three-dimensional induction logging tool and we carry a thorough research into the status quo of this issue home and abroad.Secondly, we analyze the effect of the metal mandrel on logging response by using the finite element method in the three-dimensional induction logging tool and demonstrate that the effect of the metal mandrel can be effectively eliminated.Thirdly, a systematic experiment is designed for researching the technical characteristics of three-dimensional induction logging tool, which includes the design of experimental well platform, the design of the coil structure, the method of signal measurement and the design of measurement system. We have verified the characteristics of the three-dimensional induction logging tool, which lays a firm technological foundation for the research and development of relevant equipments. Finally, we have done some exploratory experiments about reducing the effect of the borehole by using the electrodes, which is helpful for the design of the three-dimensional induction logging tool.
