A specific flocculation adsorbent with the properties of low cost, small content of chloride ion, large adsorption capacity on calcium ion, strong flocculation was developed to improve the papermaking process with zero discharge of waste water and residue. The quality parameters of the wast waters in process were analyzed to find the reasons of the problems occurred in the process; The relationship between the reaction conditions and the carboxyl content of oxidized Canna starch was studied by orthogonal analysis, and the properties of the Canna starches oxidized with hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite or potassium permanganate were compared; The complex behavior of the Canna starch oxidized with hydrogen peroxide (OS) and poly dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride (PD) was investigated, the relationship between the compositions of OS/PD complex and their flocculation performance in the treatment of the waste water studied, the flocculation residue was used to substitute fiber material, and the effects of the residue on the strengths of paper was investigated; The relationship between the oxidation degree of Casuarina bark and of the paper and its absorption capacity on calcium iona in the waste water was studied, and it was found that the use of the modified Casuarina bark with the adsorbent A was able to reduce substantially concentrations of calcium ions in the waste water.
