Recently, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been attracting extensive interest in supramolecular chemistry and material chemistry, not only for their intriguing structural motifs, but also for their potential applications in ion exchange, gas storage, biological activity and so on. So far, many coordination complexes with unique structures and functions have been constructed, however, owning to the self-assembly process is influenced by several factors, it is a key topic to select building blocks rationally and design strategy assembly. Flexible polycarboxylate ligands have been widely used for their unique structural features. In this paper, we select 3,3',4,4'-diphenylsulfonetetracarboxylic acid (H4dstc) as the main ligand, choosing different N-donor auxiliary ligands and metal ions, eleven coordination complexes were synthesized hydrothermally: [Cu4(H2dstc)4(phen)4]·12H2O (1), {[Cu2(dstc)(bpe) (H2O)2]·4H2O}n (2), [Cu3(dstc)(bipy)(μ2-OH)2(H2O)2]n (3), {[Zn2(dstc) (bipy)2]·8H2O}n (4), {[Cd5(dstc)2(bipy)23-OH)2(H2O)4]-4H2O}n (5), {[Cd4(dstc)2(phen)5]·H2O}n(6), [Ag8(dstc)2 (bpa)3]n(7), [Ag(bpe)2]·H3dstc (8), {[Ag2(H2dstc)(bpp) (H2O)]·H2O}n (9), {[Co2(dstc)(bpe)2 (H2O)2]·2H2O}n (10), {[Co4(dstc)2(bpa)3(H2O)6]·7H2O}n(11). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction found that complex 1 is a discrete tetranuclear unit; complex 2 is composed of 2D 44 grid-like layers based on dinuclear copper units; complex 3 features a rare 3D (6,8)-connected topological net consisting of trimetallic clusters; complex 4 shows a binodal 4-connected network; complex 5 shows an uncommon (4,12)-connected topology; complex 6 is a 2D structure; complex 7 is a complicated 3D network based on hexanuclear Ag(I) clusters; complex 8 is 0D discrete unit; complex 9 contains two different 1D chains; complex 10 represents a 3D binodal 4-connected (64·82) network, and complex 11 can be simplified as a primitive cubic (pcu) framework. Furthermore, the magnetic properties of 1,3,10,11 and the photoluminescent properties of 4-9 are discussed.
