Poly(Methlmethacrylate)(PMMA) belongs to a class of thermoplastics plastics that possess many unique properties that are suitable for a wide variety of technical and industrial products. It is available at a relatively low cost, is nonflammable, and has good chemical resistance and corrosion resistance. However, low impact resistance is deficient for PMMA expanded applications. PMMA is blended with rubbery polymers to improve its impact strength, thus making it suitable for rigid application. Hence, the miscibility between PMMA and other polymers has received substantial attention for improving the impact strength.a-methylstyrene, styrene and acrylonitrile(a-MSAN) copolymer were prepared by emulsion polymerization with different feed ratio of a-methylstyrene, styrene(aMSt) and acrylonitrile(AN), then obtained poly(methylmethacrylate)(PMMA)/a-MSAN blends by melt blending with PMMA. The compatibility of PMMA/α-MSAN blends were investigated by transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA). The result showed, a-MSAN and PMMA blends were compatible when the AN content from 15wt% to 25wt%. If the content was more than 30wt%, blends system was incompatible. Replacement of styrene with a-methylstyrene widens the miscibility window with PMMA.The AN content desided compatibility of PMMA/a-MSAN(50/50) copolymer, and the compatibility was better as increase of AN content.A series of poly Methylmethacrylate-Butadiene-Styrene (MBS) resin were successfully synthesized by grafting Styrene and Methylmethacrylate monomer onto Styrene-Butadiene latex rubber particles with seeded emulsion polymerization techniques. Matrix polymer of transparent Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) resin was the blend of poly Methylmethacrylate (PMMA) resin and poly Acrylonitrile-Styrene (SAN) resin. Transparent Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) resin was prepared by blending these MBS resins with different components with matrix polymer. The mechanical properties, optical properties and morphology of transparent Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) resin were investigated. The results indicated that the impact strength of the blend of MBS resin and PMMA/SAN matrix resin was 191 J/m, the transmittance of the blend arrived 85.6% and the haze of the blend was 2.9%.
