In this paper, separation of ytterbium and lutetium by ion exchange chromatograpHy with N-hydroxyethylethylenediaminetriacetic acid (HEDTA) has been studied. The effects on the separation of ytterbium and lutetium have been studied in detail at room temperature, such as pH on the elution, concentration of HEDTA and so on. The fit condition has been determined:withφ15mm×600mm chromatograpHy column, ytterbium and lutetium can be separated satisfactorily by 0.018 mol/L HEDTA at pH=6.00 and a flow rate of 0.6 ml./min, a column ratio of 1:9. We have got stability constants of Tm,Yb,Lu complex compounds with HEDTA-2-HIBA, HEDTA-lactic acid, HEDTA-H3Cit. By the comparing of these stability constants of ternatry complexes, we used cation exchange chromatograpHy method to separate Yb and Lu with HEDTA-H3Cit as eluting agent. Compared with HEDTA, the degree of separation increased, and the elution rate decreased for 0.02mol/L of an equimolar mixture of the HEDTA and H3Cit. We can prepare hyperpure Yb2O3(99.99995%) using 99.993% Yb2O3 as raw material, with HEDTA-H3Cit as eluting agent under the perfect eluting condition. 99.99995% of ytterbium oxide can Satisfy Yb3+doped fiber requirements... |
