Boron carbide-aluminium (B4C-Al) composites are widely used in the nuclear industry owning to its high strength, high hardness, low density, lighter, good heat conduction performance, good corrosion resistance and have good mechanical performance and thermal neutron absorption performance. In this paper, the neutron shielding performance, preparation technology and corrosion resistance of B4C-Al composites are studied by Monte Carlo and MCNP5 program, high temperature solid method and orthogonal test, accelerated corrosion test and electrochemical corrosion test respectively. The results show that:(1) The neutron transmittance line descends along with the increase of boron carbide content. The neutron transmittance exponential descends along with the increase of thickness with the same neutron energy. The shielding capability of B4C-Al composites with the same thickness to low neutron energy is better than to high neutron energy. And the shielding capability is declined along with the rising of the neutron energy.(2)According to the requirements of intensive spent fuel storage framework design, the B4C content must be equal to or greater than 25 wt.% for completely shielding thermal neutron.(3) A series B4C-Al composites with good performance are prepared by high temperature solid method and orthogonal test. Orthogonal experiment data analysis shows that the optimization combinations of B4C-Al composites are 25% B4C,12MPa,16h,1200℃. And its relative density is as high as 97%.(4) The B4C-Al composites are immersed for 1440h in different concentration of boric acid solution with different temperatures. The corrosion resistance is best when the concentration of boric acid is 2500ppm. And the corrosion resistance is poor when the temperature of etching solution is higher.
