Because titanium dioxide particles are extremely small and have a large surface energy, thus they easily agglomerate and precipitate in solvent, and this will ultimately affect their application performance of titanium dioxide. And adding a trace amount of suspension stability agent may well improve suspension stability of titanium dioxide in the solvent.Dispersants applied to inorganic powder mostly are anionic polymer dispersant. Among the anionic polymer dispersants, most of them are polyacrylic acid or polyacrylic acid copolymer-based polyol. water-soluble polyacrylic dispersant has good dispersion ability, it has been used in coal-water slurry, the ceramic, alumina and calcium carbonate and other inorganic minerals dispersed. Now, someone has studied the adsorption behavior of polyacrylic acid and polyacrylates on the titanium dioxide particles, polyacrylic acid and polyacrylic acid / methyl acrylate has been applied to titanium dioxide, kaolin and calcium carbonate dispersion. But it is easy to desorb on the titanium dioxide surface and reduce dispersion for polyacrylic acid dispersant. Styrene and acrylic acid based in water-soluble monomer, Styrene can provide better hydrophobic group, then the copolymer which finally produced can balance the adsorption and desorption on the particle surface for dispersant. And this will enhance the dispersion ability of the dispersing agent.In this paper, AA, MA, AMPS, St, DMC, HPA etc, monomers as raw materials, through radical polymerization, aqueous anionic and anionic suspension stability agent applied in titanium dioxide are separately prepared. When the water bath temperature is 85℃, the total reaction time was 5h, transparent viscous yellowish green suspension stability agent is obtained; when the water bath temperature is 80℃, the total reaction time was 4h, white emulsion suspension stability agent is obtained.The effecting factors of polymer dispersing ability such as the raw material and technical factors are explored. The anionic and anionic polymer is characterized by infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analyzer and Gel Permeation Chromatography etc. By the testing performances such as potential of nano-size, scanning electron microscope, microscopes and muffle furnace etc; some application performance of polymers of suspension stability in water of titanium dioxide and retention in paper are studied, the results show that(1)Effects of ratio different monomers: the effects of different monomer ratio on polymer molecular weight and thermal properties are studied. For anionic polymers, the amount of AA has some impact on the molecular weight of the polymers, when the ratio of AA and other three monomers is 6:5, the polymer molecular weight of 17811. While the amount of St and AMPS will affect the molecular weight and thermal property of polymers, when the ratio of St and other three monomers is 1 :16, better thermal anionic polymer can be obtained, when the ratio of AMPS and other three monomers 1:7, better thermal property polymers can be obtained. For cationic polymers, the ratio of different monomers has little effect on polymer molecular weight, but the amount of St affects the thermal properties of the polymer, the ratio of St and the other two monomers is 1:8, better thermal properties of cationic polymer can be obtained.(2)Effects of the main raw material: the effect of the total monomer weight ratio of St, AA, AMPS and DMC is studied. For anionic suspension stability agent, when pencentage of the total mass of St is 6%, the prepared polymer have good dispersion properties for titanium dioxide in water. For cationic suspension stability agent, when percentage of the total mass of St is 8%-10%, the prepared polymer has good dispersion properties for titanium dioxide in water. Other different additions of monomers have a certain amount of influence on the suspension stability of the polymer, but the impact is not great.(3)Effect on suspension stability of titanium dioxide in water with different dispersing agent concentration:suspension stability of titanium dioxide in water with different dispersing agent concentration of the anionic dispersing agent and cationic dispersing agent is respectively investigated, for anionic dispersing agent, when the mass ratio of addition amount and the titanium dioxide is about 1%, dispersion effect is the best;for cationic dispersing agent, when the mass ratio of addition amount and the titanium dioxide is about 1%, dispersion effect is the best.(4)Effect on titanium dioxide retention in the paper with different dispersing agent concentration: effect on titanium dioxide retention in the paper with concentration of the anionic suspension stability agent and cationic suspension stability agent is respectively investigated. For anionic suspension stability agent, the addtion of suspension stability agent will reduce the retention of titanium dioxide in paper,so it is better not to add anionic suspension stability agent into titanium dioxide.For cationic suspension stability agent,when the mass ratio of addition amount and the titanium dioxide is about 0.32%, the titanium dioxide retention in the paper is the best.
