There are some shortcomings of traditional protective materials such as large mass and volume, not flexible, can only protect the main parts of the body and so on. They are not meeting the demands of contemporary war. So we need a new kind of flexible protective material, which has the advantage of light, soft and good protective property.According to this demand, the paper was prepared shear thickening fluid (STF)-carbon fiber composites. In order to analyze the particle size, shape, size distribution, functional groups and phase, the nano-SiO2 were tested by laser particle size analyze, transmission electron microscopy(TEM), FT-IR, XRD. The STF was prepared by mechanical stirring and ultrasonic dispersion methods. The rheological properties of STF were tested by the AR2000ex rheometer, and then analyzed the influence factors. The composites were prepared by static immersion method, and protective performances were tested. The micromorphology of fiber fabrics before and after the test were observed by scanning electron microscopec(SEM).The test results indicate that:(1) The nano-SiO2 particles was amorphous, and size was about 50nm. The surface of particles contained a large number of hydroxyl groups, this led to a serious phenomenon of reunion between particles and poor monodispersity; (2) The prepared STF had a good rheological properties, and it was affected by SiO2 mass fraction, dispersion medium and temperature and so on; (3) The stab-resistant properties of STF-carbon fiber composite is preferred over pure carbon fiber,10 layers composite’s stab-resistant property is better than 16 layers pure fabrics. The quality and flexibility are much better than the latter. The friction between fiber plays a main role in the process of stab-resistant.
