Self-excited pulsed water jet is a new type of high efficient jet and operation technology with widely used in cleaning, cutting and mining industries. Especially for large oil tank cleaning, the jet has its unique advantages. For promoting the practical application, it is necessary to further study the self-excited pulsed water jet technology.Based on the domestic and foreign literature, the status and characteristics of self-excited pulsed water jet, cavitation water jet and self-excited pulsed water jet are summarized. The present problems of the study of self-excited pulsed cavitation water jet are analyzed.The advantages and disadvantages of comprehensive test, orthogonal test and uniform test methods are introduced. According to the characteristics of the test in the paper, we select the orthogonal test method to design test program. The nature, characteristics and test design processes of the orthogonal test method are analyzed. Finally, we decide the test program.We obtain the optimum test conditions and the conditions of occurrence of pulsed jet by the experimental equipment and test systems based on the test program. The generating mechanism of self-excited pulsed water jet and cyclical phenomenon are described. The impact of structure and operating parameters on the effects and frequency of self-excited pulsed water jet, and the intraluminal pressure waveform and frequency domain are analyzed.We select the proper model based on the characteristics of multiphase model, cavitation model and turbulent model, and the selected model was validated.The numerical simulation of the optimum test conditions has been finished. Firstly, we describe the evolution progress of the inner flow field. Comparison of experimental results, the numerical simulation results are correct. We analyze the mechanism of the evolution progress in one period.
