The development of shale gas industry in the United States has changed thepattern of world oil and gas resources, and has a great influence on national energysecurity, geopolitics and foreign policy. The success of the development of the U.S.shale gas industry is largely from shale gas technology progress. Research of shalegas in the United States technology progress and its contribution rate is benefit.Summarize the successful experience of American energy companies’ shale gastechnology progress can provide reasonable suggestions for the technology progressof shale gas in China.The main research contents of this paper are these. Analysing the change law ofshale gas production in the United States and stage division; Exploring the success ofshale gas development experiences- eight energy companies, such as ContinentalResources Company, and summarizing characteristics of technological development,staging division; Calculating the different development stages of shale gas technologyprogress contribution rate; Drawing inspiration from the energy companies’ shale gastechnology progress to our country. The main research methods are case analysis.The conclusions of this study: the first is the development of shale gas is dividedinto four stages: the initial stage(from 1981 to 2007), growth stage(from 1997 to2003), blowout type development stage(from 2003 to 2005), mature stage(after2005). The second is the three stages after 1997 of technological progress contributionrate are: 41.27%, 29.78% and 72.47%, fully display technology progress plays a keyrole in energy companies’ shale gas development, especially after 2005. The third isthe U.S.A energy companies’ technological progress but only including software buthardware, in which the hardware contain three major technological innovation: levelof drilling, fracturing production and crack comprehensive monitoring; Softwarecontain high-quality staff, diversified management mode, mergers and acquisitionsintegration of resources.The innovation of this paper mainly lies in measuring the contribution rate oftechnological progress of shale gas in the United States, fills the blank of shale gastechnology progress in the field of quantitative analysis.
